Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate
What is the Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate?
This certificate confirms that the minor electrical installation work to which it relates has been designed, constructed and tested in accordance with BS 7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations). It is also called the Minor Works Certificate. It is a legal requirement to which everybody must comply.
The Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate is required for:
- Alteration made to an existing circuit (without the change of the protective device)
- Addition made to an existing circuit (such as a new socket outlet).
A typical use of this certificate would be when a new lighting point is added to an existing circuit.
It is a legal requirement to complete a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (commonly known as the Minor Works Certificate) after electrical installation work has been carried out on a modified circuit.
The original document must be given to the "person ordering the work" and a copy should be kept by the electrician who completed the inspection and testing.

The IEE provides free model forms for certification on its website. These forms are in accordance with the BS 7671 requirements, but they might not be visually impressive.
There are many companies offering dedicated software packages for this purpose but they can be very expensive.
In order to support the electrical community we are providing blank electrical forms that can be filled on your PC or can be printed and filled in by hand. To do this you will need Open Office which is free alternative to MS Office.
This package contains blank forms, suitable for printing out and filling in by hand in Green, Purple, Red and user defined colour schemes.
We also offer you a simple yet completely appropriate model form, which can be opened with Acrobat Reader, printed out and filled in by hand. The form comes in a standard PDF format and it is free. You can download the PDF form from here.
